O FOOLISH GALATIANS!

“O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you” — Apostle Paul expressed his disgust at the Galatians. They had accepted the Gospel through faith, they had been working miracles through faith, and for them to now turn from the fundamental principle of the Gospel must have been bewitchment.

To help drive his point home, Apostle Paul returned to the origin — Abraham.

“And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.” — Galatians 3:8

That verse tells us that God already had the Gentiles in mind right from Abraham. Abraham obtained righteousness through faith (and not works). And this was God’s goal; that through faith (in Jesus Christ), all nations (Jews & Gentiles) shall obtain righteousness as Abraham did in the days of old.

“that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” — Galatians 3:14

The revelation Apostle Paul dropped between verses 15–29 made me scream!

Here’s the outline of what he wanted the Galatians to understand.

  • God already made a promise to Abraham that, through his seed (Jesus) shall all nations be blessed. [God didn’t give a date].
  • The promise made can be equated to a legal will that a man/woman prepares for his/her children. In other words, the covenant between God & Abraham had a legal seal.
  • Our little knowledge of a legal will provides an understanding that, once the will has been signed, no one else can alter it. This concept was also applicable to God’s promise to Abraham.
  • The implication of this is that the introduction of the law, 430 years after the promise, does not nullify the promise God made.
  • So, because the law was introduced does not mean that God had disposed of his original plan to bless all nations through Abraham’s seed (Jesus).

Paul went on to explain that the law was introduced because of the transgressions of men at the time. It was technically a placeholder to guide mankind to Christ (where true justification lies).

Now, that Christ has come, mankind (Jews or Gentiles) is no longer under the law.

And for those that have already believed, we are all one in Christ. Therefore, there should be no discrimination. — A crucial message he passed across to the Jews discriminating the Gentiles within them.
